An especially light, hybrid-slab construction in steel and reinforced concrete is planned to minimize the dead loads. The slab construction will facilitate large span widths, whereby the central zone of the building can remain free of columns. Regular openings in the steel joists enable and uncomplicated installation of building services within the ceiling plenum. The pedestal construction will be implemented in the same hybrid construction technique so that the exhibition and conference area can be designed free of columns. Only the bracing cores and the underground carpark will be constructed with reinforced concrete; the sub-terranean areas in contact with earth will be constructed with water impermeable concrete to provide a waterproof barrier.

BITZER HEADQUARTERS
A HIGH RISE WITH AN INGENIOUS SLAB SYSTEM
The globally active company BITZER, specialists for refrigeration and air conditioning technologies, are building a new headquarters at their head office in Sindelfingen. The 70m high building complex, visible from afar, is under construction in close proximity to the existing administration and representation buildings. The 17 upper floors will provide 500 new workplaces. The base construction with foyer includes an exhibition area, a restaurant, conference rooms and generously sized recreation areas. A two-level underground carpark stretches over almost all of the site providing space for 340 vehicles. The structure for the building was developed under the stipulation of connecting a high level of flexibility in usage and short construction time with economical and sustainable building techniques.
All structural elements were reduced to their minimum possible geometric dimensions, so that the use of material for slabs, columns and foundations could be reduced to nearly half when compared to typical flat-slab buildings.
